Installation guide

Four steps, two minutes

No IT department needed. Any staff member can install this themselves.

Download the extension file

Click the download button above. A zip file called visional-extension.zip will save to your Downloads folder. You don't need to unzip it yet.

visional-extension.zip will appear in your Downloads folder. Keep it there — you'll need it in step 3.

Extract the zip file

Right-click the zip file → Extract All → click Extract. This creates a folder called visional-extension in your Downloads.

Right-click visional-extension.zip → Extract All → Extract. You should now see a visional-extension folder.

Open Chrome Extensions and enable Developer Mode

In Chrome, go to the Extensions page. Then turn on Developer Mode in the top right corner.

In the top right of the Extensions page, find the Developer mode toggle and switch it ON. A few extra buttons will appear — that's normal.

Load the extension and pin it to your toolbar

Click Load unpacked → navigate to your Downloads folder → select the visional-extension folder → click Select Folder. The Visional PA icon will appear in Chrome.

Click the puzzle piece 🧩 icon in Chrome's toolbar → find Visional PA → click the pin icon to keep it visible in your toolbar at all times.

You're all set!

Navigate to any patient chart in your EMR and you'll see the Submit PA button appear in the bottom right corner. Click it to open the Visional PA form pre-filled with the patient's data.

Common questions

Installation FAQ

Does this work on Mac? ▾

Yes — the extension works on any computer running Google Chrome, including Mac, Windows, and Chromebook. The installation steps are the same on all platforms.

Do I need IT to install this? ▾

No. Any staff member can install it themselves in about 2 minutes. You do not need admin access or IT involvement for an unpacked extension installation.

Is this secure? Does it access patient data? ▾

The extension reads patient information from your EMR screen to pre-fill the PA form — it does not store any data locally or send data anywhere except directly to your Visional account over an encrypted connection. All data handling is covered under our Business Associate Agreement (BAA).

What if I don't see the Submit PA button in my EMR? ▾

Make sure you're on a patient chart page (not the home screen or search results). The button only appears when a patient record is open. If it still doesn't appear, click the Visional PA icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the form manually.

Does every staff member need to install it? ▾

Only staff who will be submitting PA cases need it. Typically that's your medical assistants or front office staff who handle insurance tasks. Each person installs it on their own Chrome browser — the process takes 2 minutes per computer.

I'm getting an error during installation — what do I do? ▾

The most common issue is selecting the zip file instead of the extracted folder in step 4. Make sure you've completed step 2 (Extract All) and are selecting the visional-extension folder, not the zip.
